Matt Tini (Te Rarawa, Ngāti Te Reinga, Ngāpuhi) is a multidisciplinary artist, musician, and educator whose work blends sound, performance, moving image, and storytelling. Deeply grounded in whakapapa, wairua, and kaupapa Māori, Matt’s practice explores memory, cultural identity, and the relational spaces between people, place, and sound.
As a Lecturer at Toi Rauwhārangi, Matt teaches within the Mātauranga Toi Māori major and the School of Music. He supports students to bring their full selves into their creative practice — drawing from mātauranga Māori, lived experience, and experimentation to craft new forms of expression.
Matt’s collaborative, often deeply personal works have featured in exhibitions and festivals across Aotearoa. His teaching reflects his commitment to creative risk-taking, cultural grounding, and the importance of telling our own stories in our own ways.
